Kevin “Coach Kev” Miranda is a blue belt from Chalan Pago, Guam. His journey started when his best friend Eric introduced him to the UFC and got him into working out — and from there, Kevin fell in love with the martial arts.

With two decades of training on and off the mats, Coach Kev has competed across the Marianas, Manila, and Nagoya. Today he is still driven by his wife, kids, and family, and loves helping guide the next generation of GUMA competitors.

In Coach Kev’s words

Why did you start BJJ?

My best friend Eric got me into watching UFC and working out. After we got into it, I fell in love with the martial arts.

What do you enjoy most about competing?

Competing is great. You test your skills and see where you are in the food chain of BJJ. I mostly enjoy the process and growth that comes with competitions.

What motivates you to keep training?

My wife, kids, and family. The kids are the future.

Who has influenced your BJJ journey the most?

Most definitely Sensei Tuck and my old professors early in my BJJ journey.

What does representing our competition team mean to you?

It means a lot. Working together, growing together, and helping guide the team to be champions on and off the mat.

What does representing Guam mean to you?

It means showing respect — and it means FAFO.

What are your competition goals for the next 12 months?

Compete in the next Marianas Open and hopefully Nagoya in 2027.

What is your ultimate goal in BJJ?

My ultimate goal is to give my wife and kids the support in their BJJ journey and ultimately have them surpass me in learning and growing on and off the mats.
